Huddersfield Art Society was founded in 1890, and has been active ever since in promoting the practice and appreciation of art in and around Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. Our membership, currently around 100 members, consists mainly of amateur or semi-professional practising artists. Our activities include fortnightly meetings, which include demonstrations, lectures and workshops, weekly portrait and life drawing groups, and several outdoor painting days in the summer months.
The high point of our year is the Annual Exhibition, for which we are privileged to use Huddersfield Art Gallery. This is generally agreed to be of a high standard and attracts over a thousand visitors. All members are invited to submit work for the Exhibition, which is then included according to the decision of an invited selector.
New members are always welcome.

UPDATE: Like so many organisations, we are having to cancel all our regular activities due to coronavirus. Our response is to encourage our members to keep producing art work at home and send in their images. A small selection is shown here - see the Lockdown Activities page - and for a full view of the work being done, go to our new website.
